January at Waterdale Ranch

This piece is a studio painting based on plein air studies of an abandoned ranch cattle barn in the foothills of northern Colorado.  Bluebird skies and terra cotta colored sandstone cliffs are fascinating to capture in paint.  The figure in the barn is imaginary but it reflects my romantic but gritty impression of life in the area fifty years ago.
